This is my entry for :iconlillithcrescent:'s Starcatcher DTA for this month. Onto the bio!

Pony Name: Fern
Gender: Female
Personality: Calm and connected with the nature around her and also very brave

Star Name: Glimmer
Gender: Male
Personality: Shy and timid, but also very kind

Bio: When fern was just a foal her parents were killed in the darkest part of the forest where they lived called the Forbidden
Shadows. They were all picking berries for a pie when Fern screamed, her parents turned to see a large shadowed monster charging
right for their baby. Her mother quickly swooped her up as her father and his star beamed at the monster to keep it at bay and yelled:
"Get her out of here now!"
Fern's mother tried to reason with him, "But what about you?" as tears formed in her eyes.
But he knew this would be the end of him and his family if they didn't hurry, the beast could revive at any moment, and from the loud screeches
in the distance, he knew more were on the way. It might as just be him, and not his whole family.
"You know as well as I do that they can't completely die and I can't risk you two getting hurt, or worse killed."
Her mother hugged him for the last time, tears pouring down her cheeks.
He hugged her as tight as he could and gave his wife and daughter one last kiss goodbye.
"I love you," Fern's mother said sobbing.
"I love you too, I'll see you again my love, now go, we'll hold them off." With that he turned toward the demon-infested forest, he lifted his wings boldly and with his star
shining brightly, both preparing for their fate.
Her mother ran as fast as she could, trying her hardest to ignore the sound of her husband's screams as he tried to fly away as a distraction.
But she knew that they were close behind and had to find a safe place to hide Fern, and she knew just the spot. Nearby was a hole under a bush that Fern had
dug out and used frequently when they all played hide-n-seek. Upon finding the bush, fern mother quickly but carefully moved the foliage aside to make sure
it still looked natural. Fern was quickly set in the hole and her mother whispered:
"Be still and keep calm and silent so they don't hear you," Fern nodded as she tried to hold back tears. Her mother gave a quick kiss on the forehead and quietly said
"Be brave Fern, we love you, never forget that." Fern smiled as her mother's hoof cupped her cheek, and held onto it for a second before her
mother covered her up with leaves and placed back the branches. She could hear her run in the opposite direction yelling to get there attention
along with evil screams and whistles from the monsters. After the commotion settled, Fern finally declared it safe to leave the hole. As soon as she did she ran
home as fast as she could, but there was one problem, she couldn't remember where home was. Her family traveled farther than usual to get a certain berry
and Fern was too busy playing to remember her surroundings, and soon was lost.
After wandering for hours, long into nightfall, Fern had become tired and hungry. Exhausted she plopped herself down and looked up at the great moon
in the sky. As tears formed in her eyes, Fern couldn't help but say,
"I'm scared Mommy and daddy..I wish you were here," But as she glanced up at the moon again, she could hear her father's soothing voice calling
to her, and letting her know that it will all be okay. At that moment Fern got up, wiped her tears and thought to herself, 'I'll be brave for you'.

-----------

Years later Fern had grown up and still lived in the same forest, but never made a home, no place ever felt right to her. After her parents gruesome death
she became more connected to the nature around her and became one with the forest and knew every tree and rock. As much as the cool breeze and
the twirling leaves around her made her feel happy and content, she still an empty lonely feeling inside that not even a flight over the lakes and trees
could cure.
One night on one of her nightly strolls, something within her told her to watch the stars carefully tonight. So she placed herself atop a high bolder on a hill and
felt the cool wind tickle her back as she stargazed. When Fern was just getting settled in and relaxed, she saw something peculiar moving across the starlit sky.
"Could...could that be a falling star?" Fern quietly asked herself. She spread her wings and flew toward it slightly to get a better look, and to determine it wasn't
some kind of bird. Once she got closer she could the five pointed creature plummeting to Earth.
"It is!" She watched it carefully to track where it will land, once it  crashed in between the trees, Fern immediately flew after it, not even noticing that the
star had crashed in the middle of the Forbidden Shadows.
She saw a small glow on the ground and landed hastily to check if it was alright. That was when she realized exactly where she was. Trying to act fast she approached
the tiny blue star and tried to wake it up so it knew Fern was there to help, not harm. When the star finally came to, Fern smiled gently and said,
"Hello little one, I'm here to rescue you, but we have to be quick because we're in a dangerous part of the forest." The little star looked very afraid but
knowing he could trust her, tried to float up to her, only to fall lightly back to the ground. He was too weak to be floating, especially not flying
away from shadow monsters. Fern quickly helped him up and held onto him close, but a familiar sound made her fur stand on end. 'They're close,' she
thought trying to look around cautiously to avoid getting pounced one. She could hear one rustling through leaves and quickly leapt to the side to avoid the gnawrled snapping
jaws. She looked around frantically and realized they were surrounded. Within a second, Fern had jumped into the air and began flapping her wings to get away.
But she wasn't quick enough, one of the demons grabbed hold of her tail within its jaws and began consuming it. Fern knew that when one of the Shadow demons eats you, you don't
just get eaten, you disappear and become part of them, making them stronger. She wildly tried to break free as the beast slowly dragged her down, watching her tail become shorter
and disappear within its mouth. With no success, Fern figured this would be end as it reached to her flank, when suddenly a bright blue glow shone so brightly that the monster wailed
in pain and let go of her. Taking this opportunity while she could, Fern beat her wings as hard as she could and flew as fast as she could to a safe haven. Within minutes
Fern and the star reached their destination and fern landed holding the asleep star close to her chest. That last little bit of effort he used to blind the monsters took the rest of his energy
right out of him. When the young star finally came to, Fern smiled at him lightly.
"You saved me, thank you." she said quietly. the star smiled up at her and wrapped his little arms around her face and replied,
"You saved and protected me, thank you very much." Fern could tell he was still a bit shaken up and hugged back.
"Don't worry little one, I'll always protect you."
"Really?" The star asked shining.
"Of course, my little Glimmer in the night."
